I Found My Dress!

Wedding dress shopping was something I put off doing as it was the one thing about my wedding that made me anxious. As a size 14 I am used to going into some regular dress shops where I could fit into a size medium but other shops the size XL wouldn’t even pull up over my hips. I would dread the sales assistant asking me how the items looked and if I needed another size, knowing that the XL was the biggest size they went up to. So knowing this was how I felt during ‘regular’ dress shopping, stepping into a bridal store did not get me excited, but it had to be done.

I rallied the support group together (my two sisters and grandma) and booked into 4 Brisbane Bridal dress stores. The very first stop was Pina Fiorenza. We knocked on the door before it was swung open with the biggest grin and hello from the delightful Pina.

Pina’s energy, from the second we walked through those doors, was infectious! I was instantly relaxed from my anxious thoughts and could finally feel excited that I was about to try on my very first wedding dress.

Pina asked me what wedding dress I wanted and I had absolutely no idea. She then looked me up and down and said, “you like your waist, but you don’t like your arms, you want to show your curves with something fitted but not feel too restricted and uncomfortable.”

She continued to list everything I knew about my body as if I had given her my perfect wedding dress requirements or she had known me for the past 10 years. It was then when I knew ‘this lady knows a thing or two about wedding dresses, and I am in very good hands’

We then spent about an hour trying on dresses and It was so.much.fun! Within that time Pina had helped me understand more of what I wanted in a wedding dress and made me feel so much more comfortable about the experience. When we left she said, “enjoy the process, go and try on all the dresses..but you’ll come back to me”

The next 3 dress shops I went to were horrible. All the anxious feelings and doubts I had about dress shopping all came flooding back. Instantly I could feel the difference between the shop assistants in these stores just ‘working their shift’ compared to Pina who very clearly lived and breathed the passion for wedding dresses.

The ladies in these stores just threw dresses at me that didn’t fit and very clearly did not match or compliment my body shape whatsoever. While I was trying to use my imagination as to how the dress was ACTUALLY going to look, the assistant would stand there and say ‘that looks beautiful, oh my gosh that’s the one.’

My sisters and I were wondering if they were actually looking at the same thing and confused on how they expected me to just hand over thousands of dollars for a dress that looked horrible, did not suit my body whatsoever and I couldn’t even try on in my size.

After attending these 3 appointments, I knew there was no way I was going into another store unless it was Pina’s. So the very next week I had my first consultation booked in with Pina and the rest is history!!

I have no words that will begin to explain my love and gratitude for her and her incredibly talented team! No idea was too big or small for her to get excited! I knew from the very first day I met Pina that I needed her in my life and more importantly designing my absolute dream wedding dress! She is a one of a kind human that would have us dancing, crying and laughing during every appointment.

My dress appointments were my FAVOURITE part of planning my wedding and I am now sad it's over. Pina and her team created a dress that was beyond anything I could have ever asked for and I beyond grateful for them xx
